I have only a dim recollection of this show in Dublin in 2000, much of the tent tour was an insane blur..
There was a lot of fear and adrenaline on stage which helped make it special,. i am happy we managed to capture this show.. especially on those raw old cameras. and especially Colin’s glasses.
This version of The National Anthem is pretty much definitive to me.
This video was a competition winner, we were very lucky to have all these genius videos come through, and for some reason this one floored me completely, the simplicity and the elegance of the idea and it even made me see and hear the song in a different way.
Hats off to them.
Meeting People Is Easy .. I’ve never really watched this since it was completed, i couldn’t because it would send me back down a mental hole that would take me days to recover from. But now skimming through it looks kind of funny, sad and alarming at the same time. I still recognize us all. But would have had some strong words for myself at this point.
Me not co-operating at all when being asked to make an award acceptance video is a spectacular low (or hi ) even by my standards, that moment set in a beautiful japanese traditional tea ceremony room, obviously.
This is Richard Ayoade’s vignette sequence made for us around “A Moon Shaped Pool”.. It’s hard to explain, but if you have ever driven, far too late at night, around certain areas of the Great British countryside you will understand. It’s how we do things here.
Which is probably the real reason some of us have chosen to abandon our European neighbours.
Speaking of Europe, in the old days it was easy to nip over to Paris and play live on french television, for the wonderful people at Nulle Part Ailleurs.
On this particular occasion i managed to knock the end of my tooth of on the mic by jumping accidentally on the base of the stand during Idioteque. Which hurt considerably and why i made a prompt exit. Luckily everybody else on stage totally had their shit together, despite Jonny’s modular drum box having been mildly sabotaged by some wag just before we went on.
All totally live in front millions of people in France. Ha!
